This week Pod 25 gets a little crazy as Chris and E. welcome two – count ‘em, two – guests onto the show to talk television – Trish from ISPN Media’s Idiot Box and Matt Repino, Pod 25’s In-the-Industry Television Correspondent.
Before that, the fellas get into the usual radio talk.
- The big news this week was the first ever Arbitron ratings for satellite radio. XM has the most subscribers, Howard Stern has the most listeners, and XM’s 20-on-20 is the most listened to music station.
- Speaking of XM, their boys Opie & Anthony lost Philly affiliate WYSP quite expeditiously after Opie said not-nice things about ‘YSP PD John Cook. Oddly enough, Kidd Chris exited his show Tuesday in a very Sopranos-esque way, and wasn’t on Wednesday. All this while CBS Radio shuffles the management deck.
- Terrestrial radio got some in, too, this week – while conglomerates want more deregulation, HD Radio’s success is being stifled by conglomeration.
- Cumulus is now on board with the PPM.
- And in other terrestrial radio news, WPHT scored some good-looking ratings – with a Phillies loss to the Rockies.
- Matt Repino fills us in on NBC News’ new digs at 30 Rock, and he also tells us about NBC’s initiative to roll out the “Nightly News” format to its local stations.
- The big television news this week is the looming Writers’ Guild strike that could bring scripted television to a screeching halt. Trish lends her expertise to that situation.
- The four wrap up this week’s show with a poignant discussion of a legitimate Presidential candidate, Stephen Colbert. Colbert might be violating campaign laws, but will that really stop his “campaign”?
The Pod 25 theme music is “Never Get Out” by Brad Sucks.
